Kensington Metropark

The day before I left Detroit we went for a hike in Kensington Metropark. This is a very large park with a lake in it.

The Park itself is close to the city and is surrounded by a wall of trees, each one having a different autumn collor. The lake is small but large enough to have some very big fish in it which were jumping out of the water every now and then trying to catch insects. While at the same time the seagulls around the lake are trying to catch the fish .

The park also has a Nature Center which gives the visitors a chance at spotting fish, heron, swans, deer, and many species of birds. We mannaged to see a few fish, a couple of swans (see picture for that), some seagulls, geese and squirels.

Kensington is very popular for its eight-mile paved path that circles Kent Lake.(abt. 15 km) And we decided to walk the full length of the lake but after 12 km I gave up. A note for the future: Never hike unless you wear 100% cotton socks!!! Trust me it's very important!

Despite the long hike (with socks not 100% cotton) I still managed to take some very good pictures. After the park we went to a chineese restaurant (all you can eat) which was good food but bad idea as we were quite hungry after the walk ...

If you are ever in the area you have to visit Kensington Metropark, it's worth it.

The Wedding

The wedding and the day after. The wedding (the main reason for my trip at this time) was very nice and the bride and groom looked great. (I noticed this is one of the only times the woman is mentioned first, hmmmm, I wonder why...)
Any way this seemed to be quite an international wedding. There were visitors from Israel (me) and the bride's parrents, Canada, San Francisco, Siattle and New York. The food was great and so were the music (in Russian) and the drinks. The reformed Rabbi performed a very nice and short service, after arriving more than half an hour late because he thought the wedding was later in the evening.I took a lot of photos most of which look really good. And ofcourse that the first thing I did when we got home at 2:00 AM was to dowload and watch them.the next day there was a small party for the visitors from out of town and that took most of the day (and the alcohol ).
I took some pictures there as well (duh...) but his time they were of a really really big spider and a leaf bug. That's it more or less, I'm going to sleep. If you want to see more of the wedding leave me a comment and I will email you a link.

The Ford village and Museum

After I finally arrived in Detroit we went to the Ford Museum. Apparently he built an entire village and brought to it old houses from everywhere in America and even England. The place is really nice, full of color and currently also of migrating wild Canadian geese. I managed to get some really nice pictures (about 100).
The village is quite big and you can easily spend 2 hours exploring the place. It has quite a few attractions, the top 3 for me were the glass blowing workshop (with live demonstrations), the steam engine train that goes around the village and the old model T car ride (both for a few extra $).

Next to the village is the Ford museum that has a car of every Ford model ever made, including some planes and the car Kennedy got shot in (did not get a picture of that). It is a nice museum but somehow after the cars I saw everywhre in Detroit it wasn't as exiting.
I have added some of my favorite pictures.
Enjoy.

First impressions from America

My first night in america (05.10.06), after an 11 hours flight from Tel Aviv, was spent mainly at the New Ark airport waiting for a flight to detroit.Since the plane from Tel Aviv arrived late, I missed my connecting plane to Detroit. I was supposed to wait two hours for the next plane. A short wait that turned out to be 5 hours long! because of a strong rain storm. We boarded the plane at 21:50 and waited in the plane for the rain to stop. Finally we took off at 12:00 AM and I arrived to Detroit at 01:45 Am.
