Kensington Metropark
The day before I left Detroit we went for a hike in Kensington Metropark. This is a very large park with a lake in it.
The Park itself is close to the city and is surrounded by a wall of trees, each one having a different autumn collor. The lake is small but large enough to have some very big fish in it which were jumping out of the water every now and then trying to catch insects. While at the same time the seagulls around the lake are trying to catch the fish .
The park also has a Nature Center which gives the visitors a chance at spotting fish, heron, swans, deer, and many species of birds. We mannaged to see a few fish, a couple of swans (see picture for that), some seagulls, geese and squirels.
Kensington is very popular for its eight-mile paved path that circles Kent Lake.(abt. 15 km) And we decided to walk the full length of the lake but after 12 km I gave up. A note for the future: Never hike unless you wear 100% cotton socks!!! Trust me it's very important!
Despite the long hike (with socks not 100% cotton) I still managed to take some very good pictures.
After the park we went to a chineese restaurant (all you can eat) which was good food but bad idea as we were quite hungry after the walk ...
If you are ever in the area you have to visit Kensington Metropark, it's worth it.
