Quito is Quito
Quito is a popular destination for backpackers traveling around South America and a first priority one.
In Quito there are some unique facts… like it’s the city with more volcanoes surrounding it (in the world), the latitude of the city is 0’0” and for that reason there’s no seasons… or as many people say: you have the 4 seasons within 24 hours.
Using taxis:
Taxis are really cheap in Quito and they use taximeters, but be careful the driver won’t be making unnecessary turns to spend more, or that the taximeter don’t jump mysteriously from one dollar to three and a half!
Night life in Quito is cold and cool; you can go to a kind of Soho area where all the bars and discos are located, as well as good sushi restaurants, internet cafes and the most popular backpackers’ hostel too: Gan Eden.
Down there you don’t need transportation as it’s all around.
I recommend going to the No-Bar, which is a unique style bar… and take your ID so you can enter… even if you are 50 they’ll ask for ID… weird, ah?
Oh! One more thing: in Ecuador they use US Dollars as national currency, so don’t worry about calculations or money exchange, and don’t be surprised to see pennies, dimes or quarter Dollar coins written in Spanish… they are no fake and are authorized by the US, but don’t take them out of Ecuador if it’s not as a souvenir!
