I have to admit, yesterday was very overwhelming and in comparison, it seemed like we have gotten over the initial shock of the masses of people and traffic. Today we went to the Crafts Museum which along with the exhibits, there were also local artists displaying their wares so we spent some time just watching a couple of the local potters in the process of their work. We then spent the afternoon strolling through the National Museum and the best part of the museum was the Indian Minature Paintings exhibit although by the time we got to it, we were a bit rushed through this part because they were closing soon. After dinner, we made our way to our overnight train which will take us to the ancient location of Bodh Gaya which is where Lord Buddha gained enlightenment some 2500 years ago. Another shocking example of the sheer population of this country is the New Delhi Train Station. An endless sea of people all jockeying for position to hopefully get a seat on the train. The entire platform was filled with people, bags, suitcases, animals, baby's, and food. Fortunately we have assigned bunks awaiting us. Now I know we weren't on the Orient Express but even I was surprised at how basic the compartments are. Our first cockroach sighting didn't help things either as one was trying to get to the food of your compartment partner who was a gentlemen in the army who was going home to build his house. The great thing was that we were both extremely tired and we knew that we would be sleeping through the night anyways. I won't even describe the toilet on the train to you......I will let you imagine how wonderful they were and keep in mind that we were on a 2nd class train so there is worse than this...........oh I forgot, for you rodent lovers out there, we had our first sighting of Rats at the train platform and there were plenty of them.
