jumping off a bridge?

Hmm today has been exciting!  This morning I went hangliding.  It was really cool.  We jumped off the side of coronet peak and then flew along above the hillside and forest.  There was lots of wind rushing up the mountain side so we spiralled up and swooped around.  There was a hawk flying below us and a family of mountain goats out  for a walk, and I could see the shadow of the glider on the tree tops.  Its an amazing feeling when you run off the cliff edge and the glider picks you up and you can feel the wind carrying you along.  I had a go at steering too and then before we landed we did a few dives and swoops around to lose some height.  Pretty cool, I'd definatley do it again.  Oh yeah and the view from up there is pretty good.

After this we went for a wander around the shops in Queenstown then ate lunch and sat by the lake to read for a while.  Then we met our new car passenger, Richard from Holland.  Michal is staying in Queenstown for longer, may catch up with her somewhere further north...

So then we headed to Wanaka.  On the way there is the Karawau bridge, the 1st bungy site apparently.  We thought we'd go and have a look.  It was fun/horrible to watch., I couldn't decide.  So we sat and had an ice cream.  And then I started to get this strange feeling that I wanted to jump of the bridge too... So I did it. It took about 5 minutes for me to decide to do it, pay, go onto the bridge and then jump off...  It was great, awesome feeling.  I didn't look down, just jumped off, after the first bounce I didn't really know which way was up, wierd.  Its so odd, just jumping off until you reach the bottom..  So there, been there done that, got a t shirt.  After that we just carried on to Wanaka, played load music in the car, I was pretty hyper.

Yesterday was a lot more sedate than this, just wandered around the shops, bought a couple of pairs of beautiful earrings.  The YHA messed up our booking for last night so upgraded us to an appartment (how it is possible to f**k things up so many times I don't know - we did have somewhere to sleep though, thats the main thing, and the free food shelf made for excellent pirating).  It was pretty nice.  We watched some TV and cooked a nice dinner then went out for a drink.  Very relaxing, felt a bit like being back at home...

Tomorrow: rock climbing

Wanaka is nice, have an amazing view of the lake and mountains in the evening sun out of the hostel window.
