Abel Tasman

I've just arrived in Blenheim, on my own.. Have separated from travelmates now...  Tomorrow I'm going wine tasting, there are a whole load of vinyards around here and bikes to explore them on... will let you know how that turns out ( bit wobbly I expect).

The glaciers were good, we visited Franz Josef and Fox nd walked up to the terminal to have a look.  The both have a lot of fallen rocks on them so look quite dirty, but in patches they are very blue!  We didn't go on to the glaciers, just had look ( you can go ice climbing - sounds like fun but my credit card needs a rest...).  The river that runs out of the Fox glacier has loads of chunks of ice in it, and we saw bits falling off to.  After the glaciers we spent  very long day in the cr driving to Nelson via Hokitika (looked at the jade) and the pancake rocks.  These are limestone rocks formed in thin layers like pancakes, hence the name..  The views down the coast were great and the rocks are pretty cool.

Just caught up with your travels - you're in familiar territory now! Sounds like you're making good ground and doing lots of adventurous things. I take it you're heading North next? Don't miss the Tongariro crossing or Rotarua - that's my advice.

Have fun,
Susan.
