Hello, I'm home. was a pretty long journey... Had to stop off at Tahiti and LA on the way back, I even had to enter the US, have my passport stamped and everything just so I could pick up my bag, hand it to someone else then go back through security again and get on the plane.
It feels very strange to be home, it feels like I've hardly been gone in some ways but then when I think about all the places I've been it feels like I've been gone ages. Feel a bit weird really, am sad to be back. I'll be going again as soon as I have the time and the money.
My last few days in Rarotonga were really nice. Cycling around the island was great, although going past the airport was a bit scary, the road goes right past the end of the runway. There was a random chicken pecking at the grass outside the fence. We hiked up the mountain behind the hostel again but this time in the sun so the view was excellent and we got to climb the cliffs at the top. There was a fern meadow over the top of the cliffs which was very quiet and had amazing views of the south and west coasts and the mountains inland. It was hard going though, its so humid, it feels like you're really struggling for breath and all you're breathing in is water.
I also spent some time snorkelling off the beach, I've never seen so many different types of fish! The night before I left we all went out because it had been Katie's birthday a couple of days before... random night... We got picked up by a bus that just stopped, we didn't wave at it or anything and it wasn't the public bus... It was a bus from one of the resorts taking some guests on a pub crawl, so we joined in so we could get a lift to town. Ended up staying with them all night, getting very drunk and visiting some odd placed, such as the glof course, for a drink. All fun though, lots of dancing and drinking then we went back to the hostel and got in the pool, woke all the othere guests up I think ooops. Was much to giggle about in the morning, espacially the guy in my room that passed out in the bathroom then felll out of bed several times and eventually slept on the floor along, he remembers nothing.
My last day I spent going to the market to buy some pearls ( I got 2, they're pretty), I hitch hiked there and got picked up by one of the prime ministers advisors or something along those lines, small place! I spent the afternoon on the beach with a guy from the hostel, snorkelling reading and playing with the hermit crabs and sleeping and talking. Also looking at the beautiful view and trying to imprint it on my brain. Was a really perfect last day.
Then I hitched to the airport, got caught in a tropical downpour and now still have a soggy bag.
Anyway I had a great time, wish I could do it all again. Thanks for reading and for your comments.
Lots of love, Elly
