She's a Workin' Gal!

Posted on Nov. 8, 2006 at 10:02 PM in New Zealand (Subscribe)

Holy Crap!  Whoever thought I was getting a vacation was wrong!  We're working VERY hard!  We had pretty much the whole house (4 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a garage) framed in one day!  I think the best part was meeting the homeowner, a single mother of five, Ahara is her name which in Maori language means Love.... was seeing her walk over to us with a beaming smile, throw her arms in the air and say this will be my room!  It's just great to see all the stuff that we're doing here is making a difference to someone.  Just really helps put everything into perspective.  Today I tried to use a garbage bag as a rain poncho... yeah not working so well haha I had to leave in the middle of the day and go buy gum boots, warm rugby socks and a jacket! Freak it was cold!  And we even had hail haha. However yesterday it was so sunny and warm that I got a sunburn haha!  We went to a town called Bluff yesterday, which is the southernmost point in the world without going to Antarctica.  That was GORGEOUS!  I've got pictures it will just take me another couple days to sort out how I'm getting them onto the computer...You want to learn to make New Zealand food??  Start with bread.  Lather it in butter....cook it in a pastry shell...throw some butter on top of that and you've got yourself a mean... There is no end to the bread and butter.  Awesome food however.  When I come back I'm going to be one of those people on the plane who gets embarassed because they're asked to pay for two seats haha, just kidding, well maybe haha.  Anyways, I've lovedddd getting your guys'emails and posts on this blog so keep it up!  I want to know what's going on back home because nothing down here's too exciting.  In fact I'm still kind of jet laggin haha. what a baby. Oh and I'm not sure if I said on my last post... But if you want New Zealand South in a nutshell just take a trip to BC haha a lot cheaper.  Bluff was gorgeous scenery however.  Ummm nothign else too crazy,  I haven't seen "night" or darkness since I arrived in NZ.... I go to sleep and it's light out the window (it's 10 here and it's still bright) and I wake up and it's light... messes with ya a little bit.  Okay mom would say I'm babbling!  I totally miss everyone back home!  Can't wait to see you all again and keep up those emails!

Love you all!

Hey Jenna,
Sounds like you are haveing a great time...sort of haha. But I'm glad to hear that you are doing well and that you haven't died yet so that is good. I wish I could be there, because when I was Framing we didn't get the same responds for the homes that we built, so what your doing over there kind of validates the value of a home and what it really means for those who don't have anything.
Anyway Kayla and I are well we went skating at the Oval the other day and I started going to the gym with her...got to lose the fat and get hot again hahah JK. The Flames played Dallas last night and I bet Scott is pissed because they lost to Calgary 3-1.

Well I suppose you are tired and wanting sleep or you are going out to paint the town red or something(Don't have clue what the time is over there)
Take Care and don't catch on Flame,
Colin Nelson
