The American Embassy

Posted on Nov. 8, 2008 at 01:46 in Milan-Rome-Florence, Italy (Subscribe)

Florence was our destination on November 7th.  We had another problem with our hostel-Emily booked the night of the 8th instead of the 7th.  The hostel manager was a funny, friendly guy and fixed everything promptly.  He also managed to tell us that, "America is sufficiently brave to elect a black president."  At another time, he mentioned, "God save America!"

There isn't much to say about Florence (in my opinion, anyway).  It is in the middle of Tuscany and is quite stunning.  Other than that, all I saw was

1. Hordes of American tourists

2. Pickpockets and potential pickpockets.

I had gnocchi with pomodoro sauce for lunch.  This was my first time having gnocchi, and now I'm hooked.  We spent the majority of the day at the markets and I found a really unique present for Frank's family.  Hopefully they will enjoy it!

We did happen to run into Jason, Barron, Ashley and Nicole.  That was a huge surprise-of all nights and of all the places they could have stayed, we were at the same place.  The guys came out to dinner and it was good to catch up.   I had risotto with four cheeses (fontina, parmesean, mozzarella and I can't remember the other one).  I couldn't finish it-my stomach was feeling absolutely terrible.  I had to go to the bathroom about once every 30 minutes...it was so pleasant.  And that's all I have to say about my Florence experience.
