First Day in Au - Nang, Krabi

Posted on Sep. 18, 2004 at 17h48 in Thailand - September 2004 (Subscribe)

We spent 5 days in the "Ban Au nang" - bay og Au Nang. The bay is some 30 mimuntes drive from the Krabi Airport, and some 20 minutes drive from the local city - Krabi City.

The area is full of beaches, bays, small Islands, resorts, hotels and guesthouses, restaurants and lots of local Massage parlors.

We booked a full day "Island Tour" for our second day. A driver picked us up from our hotel (Pakasai Resort - very nice place) and we picked up two more couples before he "let us off" in a weird bay. Being new to Thailand, and reading books, seeing fils and hearing from friends -  I must say this was not what we had in mind. the pick up place was a somewhat deserted beach. We went through some sand to get closer to the water and were told to get into the 'boat". now let's be clear: this was no yacht, no 14 stories ship or anything like that. it was what the locals refer to as "tail boat". It is closed to an old stinky wooden jar, whic smells like oil and looks like something from the fantasy movies. It has its very own engine sounds and smells like a scooter's engine) and a local Thai kid handling it.

Nevertheless, it didn't take 3 minutes for us to get hooked to the atmosphere, the view was fantastic while we exit the small bay and went out to the ocean. Small Islands (we're talking REALLY small - like 20 meters radius... ) just poping out of the sea, amazing colorfull fish, light blue sky - and silence. This was the starting point for one very special trip, where time, date and news are so important you keep forgetting they exist...
