Raily Beach - Au Raily.....

Posted on Sep. 19, 2004 at 22h03 in Thailand - September 2004 (Subscribe)

You take the long tail taxi boat from Au Nang center (where all hotels, guest houses and resorts are located), pay a 12 year old kid 50 baht (about $1) and after some 8-12 minutes of sailing in the lovely bay, you land in one of my favorite beaches in thailand - Raily Beach.

The beach is not too big, not too small, there are 2-3 skooba diving clubs, 2 resorts with restaurant and some people climbing the walls (really!) practicing what thai refer to as "Rock Climbing".

I had to try this (it is very weird to see people climb a wall) so I took a half day course. The guide gave me some cool cloth, special shoes, ropes and other stuff, and trained us n the ancient methodology of climbing a wall.

When you're on the ground, it may seem a bit frightning, but also quite easy. Truth is it's one of the most exhausting, hard, frightning and exciting sports I practiced.

You start by looking for tiny stones (4-5 centemeters) you can lift your wight on, and pull you self up with. It's amazing to feel yourself climb up, pull, push, stretch your bones and muscles to places you never felt and never was aware of in your body.

I got to the top of the course (some 15 meters height), and then, there comes the "easy" part of getting down. Well, at least it looks easy from the ground...
Your'e supposed to "throw' yourself and let go, but phsycologically, I was not able to do it! Believe it or not, I could not throw myself to the mercy of the rope from 5 meters height. However, once every few steps, i managed to fall then, I felt the fun of "falling" - and this was an amazing feeling to feel yourself climb down so fast - like jumping and gliding together - for a half a second....

Well, after 2 hours half the curse0 I decided this was enough and headed for the beach. A Pineapple-banana shake, massage on the beach and some sun into my whity skin felt much more relevant than fighting Neuton and his stupid rules of nature.
