A day in East Crete

Posted on Jun. 22, 2006 at 13h48 in Crete 2006 (Subscribe)

okay,

So today we visit the east side of the Crete Island.

As we slept in Gooves, next to Heraklion we headed east to Lasiti Plateau. this was a beautiful plateau, where we had to climb some 900 meters( with the car of course...) and then arrived at this plateau, all green with trees. The road sorrounds this area and driving it you cross several small villages, very small, very authentic, very Greece.

This was very different from other places we've been to these last days as the "touristic" atmosphere was significantly lower.

After Lasiti (or: Laciti) we stopped at "Mariana Restaurant" in a village on the road - was a culinary and cultural experience to meet Mariana and her husband Onasis ?(he clamed he killed the lamb I ate himself...).

We have npw arrived at Elounda - will write about it later on.
