Exploring West Crete

Posted on Jun. 20, 2006 at 13h59 in Crete 2006 (Subscribe)

We rented a Citroen C3 car from MotoStar agency near pur hotel (Aphoditi Hotel, in Gooves, Crete - worst hotel..)

The car was pretty new, metalic blue, and we enjoyed the drive west.

Our first stop after exiting Gouves (that is where we stayed, 10 minutes east to heraklyon) was Agia Pelagia. This village is hidden in an amazing bay. You have to drive down the cliff to get near the village and the amazing clear waters.

We headed towards the sandy beach and spent a few hours there. Looking from your right to your left, the bay had a 45 degrees view towards the north, it was quiet, peaceful and not many people were around.

A terrase above the beach had about a dozen taverns and restaurants offering the tourists food and beverages. Agia Palagia, we had the best calamari dish with ice cold shandy (50% Beer + 50% Sprite).

We headed West to Rethymno.
