Walking through Agios Nikolaos
Everybody and everywehre we went around Crete talked about this place as a "must'. So our target, going to the East of Crete was focused on Agios Nikolaos.
Right before we started our journey, I booked us a night in a place called Adrakos Suites in Elounda (also spelled Elounta), 10 minutes north to Agios Nikolaus.
We started our trip at Gouves, 10 minutes east to Heraklyon and drove to the south east - to visit Laciti Plateau (I will write about this very special place later on). We arrived at Agios Nikolaos around 4 PM after a long driving day - and decided to find our room first, and conquer the city later.
Everybody says gios Nikolaos is beautiful, but very touristic. They are 100% right. The view of the old city lake and bay at the aftenoon is quite impressive and I think this was one of my best photo shoots ever (though I am not a pro photographer...). The old city is very nice, small streets with small shops (yet more expensive than other places we visited), but te view of the bays, clear blue, sharp contrast with the rocks, beaches, sky and water is worth the drive.
We asked around for places to eat (other than the "taverns' around the beach and the lake which were very touristic) and we got a recommendation for "Magomis" - a french cuisine bistro above the lake. the restaurant was quite expensive, in Crete standards (app. 40 Euro per person for a full meal) so we decided to move on and landed in this amazing Italian family place where we had an unforgetable dinner. After the meal, the owners let us drink a small cup from theirown home-cooked brandy and we ended up buying two bottles for they way :-) (BTW they came in mineral water plastic bottles - hellarious)
