we have arrived
We have arrived to our new home town Regensburg, Germany!! So, far Erin and I love it! When we first drove into town we saw these lights in the shape of bicycles and running paths galore - our two favorite activities. There are bike paths everywhere and it appears that everybody owns a bike. The next morning we finally got to see the city and it absolutely wonderful. The city center, called Alt Stadt (Old City) is dedicated to pedestrian and bike traffic. By the way, bike rule the law here. Peds have to yield to bikes! The buildings all have red tiled roofs and the streets are all cobble stone. Wunderbarr! There are restaurants everywhere and the beer and coffee is relatively inexpensive. Each weekend we have gone to a hot springs to soak our bones. There are thermal baths everywhere! The German word for bath is "Bad", but bad=good here. The towns that begin with "Bad" means that there is a hot springs there. There are so many Bad towns!! The thermal baths are well developed, huge and super clean. Speaking of clean, everything is spic and span here. A little fact about Regensburg. The name literally means "Rain Castle," but not because it rains a lot, but because the city is at the junction of the Regan River and the Danube River. Regensburg is home to the second oldest bridge in Europe. A bridge that is not open to vehicle traffic, but I accidentally drove across it! YIKES!! I got all types of stares from pedestrians as I drove across this magnificent stone structure. I instantly knew I was doing something wrong, but there was no way I could turn around. I just kept going to the other side. Live and learn. So far we are doing great.
