Best Brat Ever

Last night we ate the best bratwurst ever!!

For some reason, ever since we arrived we have been craving a bratwurst.   We asked around about where to go and everyone said go to the "Historic Sausage Kitchen." 

The building has probably housed a kitchen ever since the building of the adjacent Old Stone Bridge during the 12th century, but it is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1615 .

We placed our order using our broken Deutsch.  We ordered a plate of sausage and two giant Weissbiers (wheat beer).  Weissbier is on every menu in every restaurant and it is yum yum.   To our disappointment the sausages were TINY.  We soon learned that the tiny sausage is the traditional sausage of Regensburg. 

We then went on a quest to find the giant brat.  We learned that in a couple of weeks the Christkindal Markets will be starting and the buzz is that they serve bratwurst that are a half meter in length.   YIKES!!!! 

We couldn't wait until then, so Erin went to the Market and for 2 Euros she bought 4 healthy sizes bratwursts.  She also purchased sauerkraut, spicy mustard, and baguettes.   Erin fried it all up last night and when I got home our hotel room smelled so good!!   I brought home two giant bottles of a local Regensburg Bier (only 77 cents each).   When all the ingredients came together it was magic.   It was truly the best bratwurst we have ever had.

It goes to show that you don't need to travel far to get a good bratwurst. Just stay home, but make sure you get the ingredients in Deutschland.
